Student Spotlight: Thomas Young – Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

NECB BSA Student, Thomas Young

Thomas: At the end of the 2016, NECB awarded me the Presidential Scholarship because I graduated from Virginia College with over a 3.0 cumulative GPA so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity. The main reason I chose NECB was because of the College’s credibility and affordability which I discovered through doing some research.

Through my research, I learned that NECB was regionally accredited and that the professors, staff, and personnel all took pride in education and the development of their students. Learning this impressed me so I cashed in on my scholarship ticket and pursued the bachelor’s in Business Administration. I knew that the professionals at New England College of Business were there to help me succeed every step of the way. I am proud to say I am a graduate of New England College of Business.

NECB: What advice would you give to someone who is considering going to NECB?

Thomas: To someone considering going to NECB, I would tell him or her that research is important in the process of selection.

I highly recommend talking the decision over with friends, family as well as current students and alumni to gain a unique perspective. Another crucial factor is to take the time to understand the purpose behind wanting to go to college and what the long-term goal is. The education at NECB will help its students be successful and gain the proper education that will mold them for the business world. It boils down to real-world skills.

NECB: What advice would you give to students to be successful with online learning? Any challenges you had to overcome? Or any misconceptions you had going in that turned out to be untrue?

Thomas: To someone going to the New England College of Business, I would tell them to take the education opportunity seriously. Especially, since NECB is 100% online so discipline is a must!

My advice would stem from my personal experience. It is important to understand that things may not always come easy but to stick with it each week because it’s crucial to understanding the material and staying on top of everything. Distractions outside of school are always going to come up but it’s so important to stay focused, remember why you decided to attend NECB and recognize the unique opportunity to learn from the professors to build upon one’s own knowledge.

Another key to success is time management. Structuring time each week to login to review the weekly tasks and then allocating time to make sure you can complete all of the tasks is crucial. When time is set aside each week to focus on school, you are setting yourself up to be successful.

NECB: What’s your biggest takeaway from attending NECB?

Thomas: My biggest takeaway from attending NECB is everything I learned along with the new skills gained from my experience. No matter if it was the BSBA Senior Capstone, Sociology, Business Writing, Accounting, or Operations Management, each class was structured to provide a solid foundation to prepare me to be successful once I graduate.

Each class was aligned on what we needed to know and not the perception of what we needed. The staff and professors at NECB take pride in helping their students be successful – providing a quality education no matter the program. That is something that cannot be taken for granted.

NECB: What’s next for you?

Thomas: Now that I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, I am planning to use my degree to explore new job opportunities. I also plan on pursuing my MBA at NECB.
