From skating to startups: New England College of Business alumnus Michael Bramante on multitasking and setting goals

Michael Bramante

He's competed in international ice dancing competitions, created an app, and bought and sold nine classic cars (flipping them for profit). He's also earned his associate's degree in business in 2014 and bachelor's in business administration in 2015 from New England College of Business while living in France.

At the age of 23, Michael Bramante has pushed himself academically and athletically to achieve his goals, and he's just getting started.

A former member of Team USA who is now training with French ice dancer Péroline Ojardias as a member of the French national team, Bramante has a few more goals on his list:

  • Learn French
  • Earn French dual-citizenship
  • Compete for France at the World Figure Skating Championships, with the goal of qualifying for the 2018 Olympics
  • Earn his MBA
  • Work at a startup

But this New England College of Business alumnus is accustomed to multitasking.

“Basically, skating is a full-time job for me,” Bramante said.

He spent time studying for his New England College of Business courses after days full of practices and coaching. On the road to earning his bachelor's degree, he also got a certificate in digital marketing, which he found extremely valuable because it gave him the chance to develop a marketing plan for his Classic Cars app.

“My courses gave me the chance to expand my knowledge and push myself to learn as much as I could,” Bramante said.

A long-time car aficionado, Bramante has been buying and flipping cars since he was 18, but he found that searching through Craigslist for reliable used cars and vetting them could take hours. His app would smooth this process, allowing users to easily find the types of cars they're looking for and analyze their value. Bramante is currently in discussions about next steps for his app.

For now, as he balances his interest in business with the pursuit of his Olympic dreams, Bramante is finding the time management skills he learned through New England College of Business valuable. He's learning French, the first step toward earning French dual-citizenship, and usually heads to French class straight from ice dancing practice. He lives most of the year in Lyon, France, but also spends summers training in Detroit, Michigan.

Wherever he is, he's always thinking about that next step, in his skating career, his academic career and his professional development. We can't wait to watch where his next adventure takes him.
