Yvonne Garcia — Commencement Speaker
Yvonne Garcia serves as Chief of Staff to State Street’s CEO, Ron O’Hanley, and most recently as SVP and Global Head of Client Solutions for Investment Manager Services. Prior to State Street, Yvonne served as Director in Marketing and Distribution Strategy for Liberty Mutual where she led the development and deployment of complex integrated marketing strategies, including the development and implementation of their Hispanic Marketing initiative and the development and implementation of Liberty Mutual’s segmentation strategy for Personal Markets. Yvonne also served as Vice President for Mass Affluent Marketing for Bank of America and as Vice President for their China Construction Bank Strategic Assistance Program. In that role, Yvonne and her team created and implemented over five new Wealth Management Centers throughout China which resulted in over 80 centers currently throughout the country. Yvonne is a fully certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and applies that discipline, rigor, and process to every project on which she deploys.
As an active leader of local and national communities, Yvonne served as the Chairwoman for the largest Latino Professional Organization in the country, ALPFA. Yvonne currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Partnership, Inc. and is the co-founding Chair of Milagros para Niños, a board at Children’s Hospital in Boston, which has raised more than $10 million in funds for Hispanic children who can’t afford medical care. In addition, Yvonne was appointed by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to serve on the state’s Latino Advisory Commission Board and most recently was appointed as the Chairwoman for the Greater Boston Chamber’s Women’s Network. Yvonne has twice been featured in Fortune magazine as one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Latinas in the United States and received the NFL Hispanic Leadership Award from the New England Patriots. Just last month, Garcia was named Boston Business Journal’s Power 50. In addition, Yvonne has run 9 marathons in the past 7 years in support of various charities across the Commonwealth.
Yvonne holds an MBA from Boston University in Finance and Marketing and a BA from SUNY Albany. She is also a graduate of the ARMY R.O.T.C. program at Siena College in Loudonville, NY and holds a Certificate in Economics and Culture from La Sorbonne in Paris, France. Most recently, Yvonne was awarded an honorary degree in Doctor of Humane Letters from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Elissandra Almeida and Nicholas Carr — Student Speakers
Elissandra Almeida is an NECB MBA graduate, class of 2019! Through her work experience, her positions have included: Teller, Teller Operations Specialist, Financial Center Manager and Senior Risk Analyst. Currently, she works as an Operational Risk Manager under IT Governance, Risk and Compliance. Elissandra received her BA from NECB in 2017. She enjoys traveling, watching The Office and spending time with her family. With her newly found free-time, Elissandra plans to take an extended vacation, try some new restaurants and is ready for the next challenge in her career.
Nicholas Carr is a proud NECB Business Administration undergraduate, class of 2019! He began his career in finance in 2012, working with such companies as Wells Fargo and Sallie Mae. Currently, he works as a Digital Services Coordinator at Rockland Trust Company, managing digital services for clients around the globe. Through his time with NECB, he became fascinated with marketing and has a goal to changing career paths. At home, Nicholas spends time with his fiancée Kate and seven-year-old son Silas, participates in many art endeavors, and is hands-down the most emphatic aspiring amateur chef. After graduation, Nicholas is glad to have more free time, which he plans to spend figuring out how not to burn spaghetti.
