Staff - Accounting Clerk

The Accounting Clerk reports to the College's Controller and is responsible for performing basic accounting functions, reconciling accounts payable accounts, balancing budgets, invoicing students and corporate partners, ensuring prompt payment of invoices, assisting with payroll processing and developing and maintaining a comprehensive financial filing system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records
  • Enter financial transaction data into the accounting/finance system (Microsoft Dynamics GP)
  • Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., disbursements, expense vouchers, receipts, accounts payable)
  • Prepare and track bank deposits and facilitate deposit transfers
  • Reconcile department accounts monthly and prepare reports to present to management
  • Investigate questionable data and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain an orderly financial and accounting document filing system
  • Track tax payments and compile information for tax filing
  • Assemble financial data for audits
  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws
  • Assist with preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll files and other accounting projects in the office as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Accounting
  • Three years of relevant experience, preferably as an accounts payable clerk or accounts receivable clerk

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
  • Proficient in accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics GP experience preferred)
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task and meet assigned deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and administrative skills Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Hands-on experience working with spreadsheets and financial reports
