How I Might Be Able to Assist

Contact me with for questions or information on accounting, business management, and taxes.

From auditing to controlling and managing, accounting has been the biggest part of my life. I work hard to bring the real world into the classroom and continually explore opportunities to take the students out of the classroom to work with actual companies.

As a CPA, CMA, CGMA I have extensive experience in accounting and the pursuit of the PhD in Accounting offers me the theoretical knowledge to assist with your questions.

Professional Projects or Initiatives of Interest:

From researching the gap in education and practice to putting students in real world situations, working with real world companies, and combining the classroom with the real world has always been a passion of Professor Viens.

Professor Viens escorted 15 students to Ireland to work with Hasbro on a Lean Manufacturing project whereby the students offered actual solutions to cost volume profit, manufacturing bottlenecks, and lean process improvements.

Professor Viens lead a Directed Work Experience in the City of Newport RI where her Cost Accounting class plus 8 additional students conducted a City wide street light assessment. This assessment was compiled in a database which allowed the City of Newport to review the areas of the city which had the highest electric cost and evaluate the cost/profit benefit of moving to energy saving lighting.

Professor Viens worked with a team of 10 students at the Rhode Island Department of Unclaimed Property to categorize and assess value to the property unclaimed from bank deposit boxes.

Working through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Professor Viens was part of a program to offer free tax return preparation to low income families. She also appeared on “Tax Talk” offered by Channel 10 News in Rhode Island.
